Another use for the foam ear plugs. I cut the strand count on my acrylic yarn puff silencers in half. That's from 32 strands to 16 strands. I then inserted a foam ear plug into them before tying them together at center. Works awesome, and only weigh 15 gr each.

Slick! Now I just need to find some in colors that match the color palette of my strings! LOL
So the yarn & the foam cylinder are parallel when you pass them through the string?

So the yarn & the foam cylinder are parallel when you pass them through the string? Yep. Slip them in, center it up with the center binding inside the string, and you're good to go.

I’m going to have to try that and Rudy’s trick with the plug and the Velcro dots on the limb. That Thunderbird shoots well, but it’s really quite loud. I am hoping that a new string with better fitting loops will help… At least until I get comfortable twisting up my own…

So… Quick update on the status here. Hi (almost) literally threw a pair of these together the other day on a rush basis trying to get to the range, and the difference that they made was simply astonishing versus a bare, dacron string.
I will have to try again to button them up a little bit more, but it would be a gross understatement to say that they vastly explore seated my wildest expectations.
Just in case anybody is wondering, I placed them at 1/3 and 1/4 of the total string length.

Pardon my ignorance, but the 16 strand count is this like 8 pcs. Of yarn on top of the earplug and 8 on the bottom? This seems like a great idea and I want to try it out.

Pardon my ignorance, but the 16 strand count is this like 8 pcs. Of yarn on top of the earplug and 8 on the bottom? This seems like a great idea and I want to try it out. The way mine are done is: 5 strands of the green on one side, 5 strands of black on the other side, and 6 strands of the orange at center. I put the ear pugs is the center of the orange with 3 strands on top of the plug, and 3 strands on the bottom. The ear plugs are laid in parallel to the stands, then I tie it all together at the middle before putting in in the string. I don't tie them into the string. I just untwist the string where I want the silencers to go, then let the string twist back up on to them, and they stay put. On an endless string, you might have to tie them in.
Hope that helps.
